Photography Session Tips


General Tips

  1. - Check out fashion magazines for the latest trends in fashion styles and even makeup that reflect you.


  1. -Check out poses and facial expressions and practice them in the mirror prior to your photo shoot or wedding.


  1. -Make sure you get a good night sleep to prevent bags under your eyes


  1. - Hair Care: Guys, let a new hair cut grow out for at least a week before your pictures. Do a close shave before your photo shoot.  Ladies, if you plan on coloring or new hair style allow at least 2 weeks to get used to the style.


  1. - Select your clothing the night before the shoot.  Choose clothes that reflect your style and are wrinkle free. 


  1. - Avoid busy clothing designs.  Solids or small prints are much better.  Avoid clothing with words (except for school logo).


  1. -Vary your style bring dressy, medium, and casual outfits  that reflect your style. Don’t forget the shoes!


  1. -Watch undergarments and make sure they are not showing through your garments you have selected.


  1. -Be careful with baggy clothing they can sometimes make you look larger than you are.  Choose clothing that flatter you body and fit properly. 


  1. -Keep the jewelry and accessories simple.  The attention is on YOU not the necklace. 


  1. - Nails may show in your pictures. Make sure your nails, toes are are trimmed, clipped.  Natural neutral colors of polish work the best. 


  1. -Most important have fun!  Stay relaxed and enjoy yourself.  This is your time to express who you are in a creative way!





Make-up Tips


  1. -Don’t go overboard with the make-up. 


  1. -Wear a little extra then normal.  Example:  Going out on the town for the evening.


  1. -Bring your make-up, hair spray, curling iron to do touch ups. 


  1. -Make sure your face & neck are blended well.


  1. -Check for tan lines when selecting clothing and applying make-up.


  1. -Simple, clean, and fresh - emphasize eyes, lips and face shape


  1. -Apply a little powder to reduce shine. 


  1. -Lighter eye make-up opens the eyes better


  1. -Iridescent or pearlized lipsticks and glosses can make lips look thinner.  Matte or low gloss lipsticks in one to two shade darker than your lips work the best.




Wedding Tips


  1. - Make sure you eat and drink.  Hydration will keep you refreshed and maintain the “glow”.


  1. -If you know people run late tell them an earlier time so they will be there on time to get their pictures taken.


  1. -If you are having photos done before the wedding in a dressing room, free it from clutter.  Things you need are fine but  excessive clutter makes it hard for you to get ready as well as it makes it difficult to capture elegant pictures.


  1. -Take notes of places inside, outside  or near by the church and reception that would be great places to take photos.  This will speed the photo shoot process up when you know what and where you want your pictures taken


  1. -Makeup: Wear a little extra that day.  This will give you more vibrant color. Your images will look better if you wear makeup.  Don’t forget to add makeup to your neck and chest area if you are wearing a lower cut dress. 


  1. -Hold the bouquet down at waist height to show off the dress and it gives more a natural feel.


  1. -Wedding party should stand like a “model”  one foot in front of the other at an angle when taking photos. This will provide the best posture and it makes you look thinner! 


  1. -Ladies wear heels for you photos if possible.  This allows your dress to hang the best on you and gives you better posture.


  1. -When kissing your bride or groom, do so slowly and hold it for a few seconds. Keep your head straight so don’t tilt to much so both of you can be seen in the photo.


  1. -Be yourself and don’t stress!  Keep the atmosphere loose and fun. Be real and laugh.  This is your day so soak it in!  You are marrying the one you love!  If you stress and feel uncomfortable your pictures will show it.


  1. - Remember:  All Weddings are unique.  These suggestions are only suggestions, not the rule.




Senior Pictures Tipis


  1. -First this experience should be fun and don’t be afraid to try something new. 

   Be yourself and your pictures will reflect who you are.


  1. -Practice your facial expressions and poses in the mirror.


  1. -Apply makeup like your going out for the evening not to much but enough to give you a little extra color.  Bring makeup and powder with you for touch-ups.


  1. -Bring several outfits don’t forget shoes, jewelry  & other accessories that will complete the look.


  1. -Keep your clothing visually simple.


  1. -Use clothing to accentuate your best features


  1. -Give consideration to color and what looks best with your skin tone and hair color.


  1. -Go easy on the jewelry to much can be a distraction.


  1. -A professional outfit is also recommended for college and job applications.


  1. -Special outfits such as prom dress, letter jackets, jerseys, FFA jackets are great way to express yourself and have some fun.


  1. -Go with simple and natural hair styles.  Keep it you.  People want to remember you as you not WoW look at that hair.


  1. -Check your hands make sure nails are trimmed and presentable.


  1. -Bring props: if you play a sport, instrument, won award through 4-H or FFA feel free to bring those items.  


  1. -If you want pictures with your car, truck, tractor etc. please make sure it is clean.


  1. -If you have animals such as your dog or other livestock you may bring them or we can make arrangements if necessary.


  1. -Bring someone with you to keep you relaxed and offer suggestions.
